Pictured: NFM Foundation board member Gary Rhoades (keynote speaker at the conference), NFM Foundation President Anne Wiegard, NFM President Maria Maisto, and NFM Foundation Research Director Esther Merves at the George Mason Public Sociology Conference, Oct 20, 2012, Fairfax, VA.
The President of the Public Sociology Grad Student Association, and NFM Foundation intern Marisa Allison, did an amazing job on pulling together a national grad student conference.
We are trying to post Gary's talk on NFM site so that it can be linked to... There are also group photos that include Marisa and other grad students [to be added to the NFM photo gallery on Facebook, along with others]

Program note on Keynote Speaker
Gary Rhoades is Head of the Department of Educational Policy Studies & Practice at the University of Arizona. From January 2009 to December 2011 he was on leave to serve as General Secretary of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) in Washington, D.C. Rhoades was Professor and Director of the Center for the Study of Higher Education from 1997-2009, and has been a faculty member at the Center for the Study of Higher Education since August 1986. Rhoades’ scholarship focuses on the restructuring of academic institutions and of professions in the academy, as well as on science and technology policy, and comparative higher education.
That scholarship informed his work with the AAUP and informs his current work with the NFM Foundation. In addition to his books, Managed Professionals and Academic Capitalism and the New Economy (with Sheila Slaughter), Rhoades is now working on an updated book on faculty, tentatively titled, More (or Less) Managed Professionals, and a volume on management, tentatively entitled, Managing to be Different: From Strategic Imitation to Strategic Imagination.
