via @anoleus…@drweissinger sings the sorrows of Nassau County #adjuncts

…a wrenching lament reworking Malvina Reynolds' lyrics for"Mrs. Clara Sullivan's Letter" (music by Pete Seeger). This is the real #NCC news, not what you get from today's Newsday. For the rest of the real Nassau adjunct news, read Frank Reiser's blog, Adjunctsaurus. There's more from the rest of us on blogs, Democracy Chronicles' March of the PhDs, Ana Fores' Adjunct Justice and other social media. I'll be blogging and Storifying it at greater length. For now, let's make this a short post day—just listen and share. Then find something to do besides talking about what can't be done or what someone else should do.

BYOP: we have a YouTube playlist

…6 hrs, 45 mins of videos, a lot of popcorn. We've been collecting videos about the adjunct life, higher education, academic workplace issues, activism and related topics. Normally, videos get blogged singly with the BYOP (bring your own popcorn) tag. With a total of 41 and four added just today, announcing the NewFacMajority video playlist is long overdue. So here it is.

Videos range from interviews, documentary trailers and news footage to xtranormal blasts. Reality and wry humor. We want to grow longer the list. Send your recommendations. Post the link to comments here, on our Facebook page or tweet them to @NewFacMajority

Following #MLA11 and #AHA2011 from afar

Not there, LA or Boston? No problem. Subscribe to twitter feeds for #hashtag searches or a "daily" paper.li for the feed (or create one if none available). The main page of the MLA site is running a live feed. Many presenters and some panels are tagged. Every hashtag generates an RSS feed. As I type, presenters and attendees are diligently blogging and tweeting both MLA and AHA conventions. Tweets can and often do include links, some to blog posts.

This model holds for just about every conference, regardless of acronym but depending on prevalent communication technology habits and saturation.

BYOP: teachers on wheels, part 1

BYOP? Bring Your Own Popcorn... candy, peanuts and pop. What else for Movie Night (or at least free online video night, scaled to the adcon budget)?.  I can't promise you a pay raise or health insurance but free videos to watch (courtesy of YouTube, Vimeo and other video sharing sites) are another matter.

Tonight's film is teachers on wheels, part 1, "a documentary on an employment crisis in higher education" by LD Janakos, Santa Monica CA. See also part 2 and part 3 in the series.
