Over the last seven years thousands of people from over 100 countries have taken part in Blog Action Day, creating global conversations on poverty, water, climate change, food, the environment, Power of We and Human Rights.
So it was natural for the team to look back through the posts from our Blog Action Day community for inspiration for this year's theme. And we found it.
We quickly noticed a common thread within your posts, across the varied Blog Action Day themes of the last several years that always aroused great passion and empathy. Inequality.
Your collective passion to highlight, take action and overcome inequality in its many forms inspired us to make it our theme for 2014 Blog Action Day.So what is this Blog Action Day anyway?
Founded in 2007, Blog Action Day brings together bloggers from different countries, interests and languages to blog about one important global topic on the same day. Past topics have included Water, Climate Change, Poverty, Food and the Power of We, with over 25,000 blogs taking part since 2007.What does it have to with adjunct, academic labor or even higher education issues? What's the point? Say, what? What adjunct would even ask that? Inequality? That's the Designated Emphasis of our days. Who isn't living the topic, doing informal (underfunded) post-grad field research on it? No, I won't hear that one. That leaves "What's the point?" and (for some of you) "but I don't blog."
The point? Briefly, imagine the potential effect of many adjunct bloggers all blogging on the same day — but please not the same blog post like all those well meaning W&H petition bloggers — and reaching a new, non-academic but sympathetic audience. Imagine all those blog post with the same tags — #adjunct #inequality #BAD14. I'll tweet and post all the links here too. Or try my best. Promise.
As for the not blogging part — for those who don't already — you've got three months to get started, but only if you are interested and so inclined. If you've been thinking about blogging, here's the perfect excuse. Think about it. I'll help you get and bet your blogging friends and colleagues will too.
More about all this at Let’s talk about Inequality | Blog Action Day October 16 2014 and in future posts
